چکیده

This paper presents an algorithm for image registration and mosaicing on underwater sonar image sequences characterized by a high noise level, inhomogeneous illumination and low frame rate. Imaging geometry of acoustic cameras is significantly different from that of pinhole cameras. For a planar surface viewed through a pinhole camera undergoing translational and rotational motion, registration can be obtained via a projective transformation. For an acoustic camera, we show that, under the same conditions, an affine transformation is a good approximation. We further propose a novel image fusion method, which maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio of the mosaic image. The full procedure includes illumination correction, feature based transformation estimation, and image fusion for mosaicing.

Mosaicing a Large Number of Widely Dispersed, Noisy, and Distorted Images: A Bayesian Approach

In this paper we extend existing mosaicing algorithms to deal with image sequences that are captured over a wide spatial area, exhibit large geometric and photometric distortions, and contain significant additive noise and other contaminations, such as light reflections. The paper focuses on three main contributions. (1) We extend the camera model used for mosaicing to deal, not only with geome...

3D Mosaicing for Environment Reconstruction

This paper proposes a technique for the threedimensional reconstruction of an underwater environment from multiple range views. The final target of the work lies in improving the understanding of a human operator guiding an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) equipped with an acoustic camera, which provides a sequence of 3D images in real time. Since the field of view is narrow, we devis...

Mosaicing on Adaptive Manifolds

Image mosaicing is commonly used to increase the visual field of view by pasting together many images or video frames. Existing mosaicing methods are based on projecting all images onto a pre-determined single manifold: a plane is commonly used for a camera translating sideways, a cylinder is used for a panning camera, and a sphere is used for a camera which is both panning and tilting. While d...
